Welcome to the Catholic Parish of St. Brigid's, Marrickville

Becoming a Cathol ic (RCIA)   What is involved?
  What is RCIA?

There are several steps and stages in the process of the RCIA. These allow you to enter more fully into the community of the parish, allowing you to get to know the parish and the  parishioners to know you.

Becoming a Catholic is a big step; it is literally a life changing experience, and one which shouldn’t be entered into lightly.  Like any family, it is always exciting and a great privilege to have new members arriving, thus there is no doubt that you are welcome, but this needs to be something that you believe God is calling you to, and should also be something that you desire for yourself as well.

The process seems long and perhaps even complicated, but it really is a great joy. It will undoubtedly be a special time in your spiritual life. You will be invited to join a group of people on a similar journey to your own.  Under the guidance of our RCIA Team you will meet regularly for reflection, education about our Catholic teachings and practices, to share your life stories and to enjoy each other's company.

If you are interested please contact the Parish Secretary.

RCIA stands for the Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults. It is the process whereby those who are unbaptised or those baptised into another Christian denomination are assisted in joining the Catholic Church by receiving what is called the Sacraments of Initiation or Reception into Full Communion with the Catholic Church.

The Sacraments of Initiation are made up of three sacraments: Baptism, Confirmation and Holy Eucharist. As adults, all three Sacraments are received at the same time, and this usually occurs during Easter time. Once all three Sacraments have been received, a person is then a fully participating member of the Catholic Church.
