Welcome to the Catholic Parish of St. Brigid's, Marrickville

  Baptising your child

We welcome your family and your new baby into our parish and it is our privilege to baptize your child in our Catholic faith.

This is held on the First Sunday of the month at 10.00am in the Annexe at the rear of the Church.

Parents and where possible the godparents are asked to attend. On the Second Sunday of the month a special Welcoming Ceremony is held at one or other of the parish masses. At this mass your child will introduced to and welcomed by the whole community.

Our secretary will tell you which mass that will be. To assist your child's growth as a person and a catholic will need to choose two Godparents. At least one of these must be an adult Catholic. You may choose others whose Christian lives and values you want to be an influence for your child.

Sometimes family circumstances require that your baptism be celebrated outside these times. You will need to contact our parish secretary to enquire about the availability of the Church. You will also need to speak to the priest you may wish to celebrate the baptism. Other priests who are family friends are welcome to come to celebrate such baptisms.

In bringing your child for baptism you are accepting the responsibility of doing all that is required to raise your child in our faith, teaching to love God as Jesus taught us and to love others as Jesus himself did.

The sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at 12.00 noon on the Third and Fourth Sundays of each month. So that the celebration can truly be meaningful as a celebration of the whole parish community, the celebration may be shared with a number of families, normally no more than two others.

All bookings must be made by our secretary who will tell you what Sundays are available and will send you the necessary information forms to be completed and returned. To help you both in your vocation as parents and to understand the ceremony itself you will be required for your first child to attend an Information Session.
