Fr John Pearce’s family has a long history with St Brigid’s, with four generations living in Marrickville during the past 100 years. His mother was baptised here in 1926, his parents were married here in 1948, Fr John was baptised here in 1950 and ordained here in 1976.
He lived here for the first year of his life. The family then moved to Guildford, but John returned briefly when he was six and attended St Brigid’s Primary School for a time during a family illness.
In 1976 Fr John gave his first Parish Mission
with Fr Gerard Mahony cp.
His first reaction to his appointment
as Parish Priest at St. Brigid's was a feeling of “coming home.”
