Welcome to the Catholic Parish of St. Brigid's, Marrickville

  Children

As a family for all, St. Brigid's welcomes the children who come here, and their families.  They are an integral part of our  parish community.

Special Celebrations

For such days as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter and Christmas, the Children’s Mass is specially prepared for their participation.  Often there will be special liturgical movement or dance, a Gospel drama that is acted, or gifts to be distributed.  Especially noteworthy is the Christmas Pageant on Christmas morning, when the children from Kindergarten age up enact the story of  Bethlehem for us.

Holiday Happening

During each of the school holidays, a special Holiday happening is arranged by our Sacramental team and Youth Coordinator. These may be picnics, video evenings, night at the movies or skating. Normally permission slips need to be filled in.  Notice is given in the Parish Bulletin.

Children’s Liturgies

Each Sunday at the 8.45am Mass, the children gather at the front of the Church,  Under the guidance eof our Parish Sacramental Team, the children process into the Church, are welcomed and then go to their specially designed Liturgy of the Word, led by trained catechists.  They return to join the whole community at the Offertory of the Mass.

On the second and fourth Sundays of each month, the children remain in the church, being seated on the sanctuary.  On this Sunday, the children lead the Sorry Prayers, proclaim the readings, do the Prayers of the Faithful and bring the Gifts to the altar.  The priest speaks especially to them at this Mass.
